part 1
only a few people know this place. it's my hometown. it's where i grew up (partly). i was born in cebu actually. but every summer and during my wonder/wander years, we would all go back to maladeg and enjoy the summer sun and cool nights filled with twinkling fireflies. (i'm musing...hehehe)
it's been a while since i haven't gone back. the last time was when i had to go for a very important affair last year. (ahem - can't mention it here... hush-hush daw, e...:P). nywez, most of my clan are there. some still stay at cebu, others have gone as far as pampanga.
the place:
our house (not the picture...:P) is situated by the sea... easy for running directly and diving in to the blue waters...:P
we live within a compound, family compound that is. most of the houses are right beside each other separated by different flowers and bushes and fruit trees there are. at the back of our house is this very old mango tree that's so huge I think a hundred people can sit on top and it won't break...:P
...near the tree is the only road that passes through our town. beyond that are the hills and the mountains.
i'd say our town's safe and friendly despite the rumors (and some facts that are true since we're way in the south). but it all depends on the people you know and the town you're in that you can consider you're safe. There were a number of times that our town's attacked by some rebels. but these days, it's being constantly resolved by muslim-christian peace talks. my hometown was featured way back in 2002 or 2003 in television through a project of Ms. Margie Moran (plugging..:P). My grandfather was featured and he talked about the history of the place. t'was featured because of a declaration made that our hometown was a "zone of peace" because of the unity and diversity of the people living there.
